Screenings Provide Crucial Insights on Diabetes Risk Factors

“By equipping people with unique insights into their possible risk factors, we can empower them on their journey to better health.”

In honor of National Diabetes Awareness Month this past November, Paramount Rx partnered with food and drug retailer ShopRite to host free blood glucose screenings in 238 ShopRite stores spanning five states across the Northeast. After taking a simple blood glucose test, more than 6,000 people gained valuable insight on their risk-factors for developing diabetes, heart disease and other medical conditions.

Screenings are a critical first step in preventing or managing diabetes. Of the 29 million Americans with diabetes, one in four are undiagnosed and don’t seek out medical treatment. Another 86 million people over age 20 are ‘prediabetic.’

“We’re thrilled that so many ShopRite customers took part in the blood glucose screenings,” said Michael Sallusto, executive vice president, Paramount Rx. “By equipping people with unique insights into their possible risk factors, we can empower them on their journey to better health.”

In addition to supporting preventative health initiatives such as blood glucose screenings, Paramount Rx is helping customers save money on their medications. By participating in Paramount Rx’s Community Cares Rx program, customers could receive up to 20 percent off on brands and 70 percent off on generic medication with the Community Cares Rx prescription discount card. Online tools allow program participants to locate a pharmacy and research drug pricing and availability, providing an extra layer of support and convenience in the pharmacy shopping experience.
