Author Benjamin Sherman’s New Book “Brick City Blues” is A Gritty Story Set in in a Depressed Urban Area Following the Unexpected Layoff of Sixty Police Officers
(PRWEB) April 26, 2017 -- Benjamin Sherman, a Brooklyn native and graduate of Stockton University, has completed his new book “Brick City Blues”: a gripping and potent crime story set in a city without the resources needed to combat the rise of gang and drug activity.
“Brick City Blues” is both a descriptive title and an analogy; Brick City is Newark, New Jersey, an urban area riddled with drugs, gangs, and other assorted street crime. Blues is meant to describe both the mood the depressing conditions induce and to draw the reader’s attention to the policing in the story. The setting in this story is a depressing period in Newark history: over sixty police officers were laid off without warning in 2010, leading to an increase in street crime at a time when it was slowly peaking. The lack of manpower led to the brutal murder of a young police officer shortly after the layoffs. This story is a fictional account of the murder and how it could theoretically affect the drug market at a time when the police department is overworked and understaffed.
Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Benjamin Sherman’s gritty tale of street crime and murder underscores the perennial battle between law enforcement and the criminal elements that destroy lives and entire communities.
Readers who wish to experience this potent work can purchase “Brick City Blues” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play or Barnes and Noble.
