Wayfair Gains Market Share in Furniture; Samsung Loses Cellphone Market Share – TraQline Q1 Data Released
Louisville, KY (PRWEB) April 28, 2017 -- The latest survey data for TraQline US was published on the TraQline website (http://www.traqline.com). The quarterly survey of 150,000 American consumers highlights some interesting findings from the data of 200+ product categories within Home Improvement, Consumer Electronics, Furniture, and Automotive:
- In power tools, online dollar share has increased steadily over the past 10 years
---This year, online dollar mix experienced significant growth (2% over last year)
---Online purchasers are only shopping one site more often (62% now vs 57% last year)
- Furniture: Both Amazon.Com (+1%) and Wayfair (+1%) experienced significant dollar share growth in Q1 2017 compared to Q1 2016.
---Amazon and Wayfair also significantly increased their draw rate in Q1 2017 over Q1 2016 (+2% for Amazon.Com and +2% for Wayfair)
- Cellphones: Samsung brand had significant unit growth (+1%) in 4Q end March 2017, but significant unit share loss (-2%) in Q1 2017 compared to Q1 2016.
- In Major Appliances, Best Buy and Home Depot had significant dollar share growth compared to Q1 2016 (+2% and +1% vs. Q1 2016, respectively).
Eric Voyer – Vice President at TraQline commented on the findings: “While we’re tracking over 200 different categories, some of the more interesting trends are in cellphones, appliances, furniture and power tools. Increase in online mix and decrease in number of websites shopped for Power tools is indicative of a greater industry trend across categories. This is highlighted in the furniture category as well by the growth of Wayfair and Amazon – two retailers who sell online only.”
In addition to the above, Samsung’s cellphone growth in Q1 2017 was hampered by its lack of a significant new product offering (and likely residual effects from the Note 7 recall). However, a strong year overall propelled Samsung to a share gain for the past 4 quarters.
In major appliances, both Best Buy and Home Depot posted positive share gains to chip away at department store shares.
