Britannica® Partners with Folger Shakespeare and Newberry Libraries; Articles, media assets enhance Britannica’s widening coverage of key topics
Chicago, Ill. (PRWEB) May 03, 2017 -- Encyclopaedia Britannica® has partnered with two prominent humanities institutions, the Washington, D.C.-based Folger Shakespeare Library and the Chicago-based Newberry Library, to enhance its online and mobile coverage of a wide range of topics.
Both institutions are contributing original articles and visual media to Britannica. A large number of photos, rare maps, music scores and historical documents from the Newberry are being highlighted throughout Britannica’s growing corpus, including the earliest printed map (date 1688) on which Chicago (”Chekagou”) appears.
Britannica is also highlighting the Folger’s excellent videos on the Bard, the Elizabethan era and related topics.
Both libraries are also contributing articles. For example, Newberry president David Spadafora has written the Britannica article about that library. Michael Witmore, director of the Folger, has authored Britannica’s article on his institution and its founder Henry Clay Folger, and former director Gail Kern Paster has written on “Shakespeare’s genius.”
The Folger and Newberry work to present humanities topics to the public in lively ways and have continuing-education and professional-development programs for teachers, making them ideal partners for Britannica, according to Theodore Pappas, executive editor.
