In honor of Cinco de Mayo, Whataburger adds yet another reason to celebrate with the announcement they will soon bring even more flavor to the table. The fan-favorites Picante Sauce and Salsa Verde will hit retail shelves at most H-E-B stores starting next week.
Located in the hot sauce aisle, Whataburger’s new retail items include:
Picante Sauce
- Perfect for pairing with eggs and bacon in the morning hours or tacos at lunch, Whataburger’s Picante Sauce is great for dipping, dabbing or topping just about anything that needs a little spice with this one-of-a-kind sauce.
Salsa Verde
- Whataburger’s Salsa Verde provides great flavor that’s perfectly mild when it comes to spice. This light green salsa is made from a blend of onions, jalapeños and tomatillos that will make your breakfast, lunch or dinner more flavorful.
“Whether you’re topping off your Taquito eggs with our Picante Sauce or adding a spoonful of Salsa Verde to fresh-off-the-grill fajitas, you can add flavor to meals any time of day. Our Salsa Verde and Picante Sauce are really versatile and work well with so many different kinds of foods,” said Vice President of Retail Mike Sobel. “We’re grateful for our partnership with H-E-B that allows us to bring these sauces into our customers’ kitchens to enjoy on their favorite recipes.”

Whataburger has focused on its fresh, made-to-order burgers and friendly customer service since 1950 when Harmon Dobson opened the first Whataburger as a small roadside burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas. Dobson gave his restaurant a name he hoped to hear customers say every time they took a bite of his made-to-order burgers: “What a burger!” Within the first week, people lined up around the block for his 25 cent, 100 percent beef burgers served on five-inch buns. Today, the company is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, with more than 800 locations in 10 states with sales of more than $2 billion annually.
