I can help 15 or 20 people in a classroom instead of one or two in a golf shop, and I can give them the skills they need to go out and enhance their careers.

With decades of experience in the golf industry, Smith will serve as a valuable resource for students. He began his career in 1991 as an assistant at a golf club in Savannah, Georgia, moving his way up in the ranks to become a tournament coordinator. In 1993, he earned his PGA certification.
This is not Smith’s first time working with Golf Academy of America. In 1996, just months after the Phoenix campus opened, Smith came on board as an associate director. One of the earliest instructors, he helped get the Phoenix campus up and running, and held that position for five years.
Following his time in Phoenix, Smith moved to Texas and began work as a construction superintendent for a golf course construction company, building and renovating courses big and small alike. He then served as the head golf professional at a destination resort.
As a golf instructor at Golf Academy of America in San Diego, Smith will teach a golf course design class and a tournament planning class. His duties include teaching students, giving them lessons and helping at the weekly Monday golf tournament.
“I enjoy training the new students on what they need to know to be golf professionals,” said Smith. “I can help 15 or 20 people in a classroom instead of one or two in a golf shop, and I can give them the skills they need to go out and enhance their careers.”
“Greg has worked in nearly all areas of the golf industry, and his expertise will be invaluable for our students,” said Steve Newman, Golf Academy of America National Director of Operations. “We could not be more excited to have him on board.”
