US Hybrid Receives Orders for Fuel Cell Electric Street Sweeper for Caltrans

US Hybrid is pleased to announce that it has received an order from Global Environmental Product “GEP” to produce fuel cell electric street sweeper for California Department of Transportation “Caltrans”.

These zero emission street sweepers will be powered by an advanced freeze capable, high efficiency FCe™80, 80kW fuel cell engines with 200kW direct electric drive powertrain system with electric drive auxiliaries.

The fuel cell powered street sweepers are manufactured in San Bernardino CA by GEP, the electric powertrain is manufactured in Torrance CA and the fuel cell is manufactured in South Windsor. The Fuel Cell Electric street sweeper order is the result of a successful five-year demonstration and operation of the diesel hybrid electric street sweeper for New York Department of Sanitation’s since 2009, with the last fleet including the export power for powering the building and tools during emergency situations.

These zero emission street sweepers will be powered by an advanced freeze capable, high efficiency FCe™80, 80kW fuel cell engines with 200kW direct electric drive powertrain system with electric drive auxiliaries. The fuel cell street sweeper will reduce fuel consumption to less than half with fast fueling and 24/7 operation. The fuel cell electric design is more operator-friendly and reliable with significant reductions in operating noise and reduced fuel and maintenance costs.

The fuel cell and electric powertrain components are then integrated by GEP at their San Bernardino, California facility.
