In response to the need for comprehensive and affordable online learning, St. John’s University is introducing new online Master of Business Administration and Ph.D. in Literacy programs for the 2017 academic school year. The programs are featured on a new website for online graduate programs at St. John’s, http://online.stjohns.edu, where visitors can find details on these new programs as well as on the existing Master of Science in Accounting (M.S.A.), Master of Science in Taxation (M.S.T.) and Master of Science in Library and Information Science (M.S.L.I.S.) programs.
The new online Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) program emphasizes broad business knowledge and decision-making skills in one of three areas of concentration: Interdisciplinary Business, Risk Management and Insurance, or Taxation. Students will apply practical coursework and gain a better understanding of the functional areas of business through case studies, group projects and a capstone project. As Dr. Sharpe, Dean of the Tobin College of Business said, "These online programs will provide the opportunity for those students outside the immediate vicinity of St. John's to participate in our highly ranked premier programs in Accounting and Taxation."
The new online Ph.D. in Literacy program prepares graduates to meet the need for improved reading comprehension in schools as a foundational skill for all learning. The degree teaches graduates how to effectively identify and address the economic, social and physical factors that can affect the literacy of at-risk learners to enhance educational outcomes. Available concentrations in TESOL, Educational Leadership, and Special Education allow graduates to make a difference in their specific literacy area of interest. Michael Sampson, Dean of the School of Education at St. John’s University said, “Our online Ph.D. in Literacy gives access throughout the United States and the world to this marquee doctoral program. On a personal level, I hold a Ph.D. In Literacy degree, so I can recommend this degree to anyone who wants to take their career to the highest level.”
Students eager to learn the nuances of accounting may enter the Master of Science in Accounting (M.S.A.) program. The degree offers professionals an understanding of accounting in the workplace and global marketplace. The program’s curriculum prepares students for the CPA exam and provides them the opportunity to customize their studies to career goals. The M.S.A. degree provides practical knowledge and valuable connections for students eager to advance their accounting careers, as evidenced by the program’s active alumni who are employed at the Big Four accounting firms in New York.
The Master of Science in Taxation (M.S.T.) program is designed to provide a comprehensive knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code, tax regulations, judicial decisions and Treasury rulings to students entering the field of taxation. Accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IAEP), St. John’s University helps students reach deeper into the field of taxation through applicable coursework and a vast alumni network.
The Master of Science in Library and Information Science (M.S.L.I.S.) degree prepares learners for a wide variety of information service roles. Students can focus their study in a specialty of interest through a concentration in Academic Librarianship, Archival Studies, Legal Information Professional, Public Librarianship, Special Librarianship or Youth Services. Graduates also gain practical skills through portfolio project and in-program internships in this program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA). “Our M.S. in Library and Information Science offers a cutting edge curriculum taught by outstanding faculty,” noted Jeffrey Fagen, Dean of the St. John’s College of Arts & Sciences. “Accredited by the ALA, our program has undergone a rigorous evaluation process that ensures the quality of the educational experience.”
