ITelagen Takes Action to Protect Its Clients' Patient Data from the WannaCry Ransomware Threat
Sarasota, FL (PRWEB) May 16, 2017 -- ITelagen, LLC, a leading provider of healthcare IT support and system administration, takes action against the WannaCry Ransomware Threat affecting healthcare and electronic health records this past weekend. The threat is widespread, affecting various organizations with reports of tens of thousands of infections in as many as 74 countries and in as many as 27 different languages, healthcare and EHR’s being a focus of these attacks. ITelagen recommends that users take prompt action to protect desktops and servers; both personal and business.
Leveraging social engineering or email as the primary attack vector and relying on users downloading and executing a malicious file, the attacks affect Microsoft Windows computers and servers and are initiated by a user opening an attachment in email or via the web that launches the virus. The vulnerability has been identified to affect all Windows operating systems from Windows XP to Windows 10 and all Windows Server Operation Systems from Windows 2000 to Windows 2016. Although Microsoft has released a security patch for ALL operating systems in the Microsoft security bulletin MS17-010 and built a patch for unsupported operating systems such as Windows XP and Windows 2003, ITelagen has already deployed the MS17-010 patch to current operating systems and servers of clients currently leveraging ITelagen’s Desktop Support and Service Hosting. ITelagen has built and tested the deployment of the MS17-010 for old Windows XP and Windows 2003 servers, which will deploy to all of the ITelagen Managed Servers and Desktops overnight.
Through a combination of enterprise grade IT management, ISO compliant security standards, proactive patching of desktops and servers, filtering of emails, and managed anti-virus, ITelagen clients have a reduced risk of being infected by any malware or ransomware threats attacking users. The ITelagen datacenters are also SSAE16 / SOC Type II Certified, therefore hosting with ITelagen provides the assurance that patient data is protected. ITelagen advises to: 1. Be careful when clicking directly on links in emails, even if the sender appears to be known; 2. Use caution when opening email attachments, be wary of ZIP file attachments; 3. Install updates to your operating system and to all your software as they become available; and 4. Back up your files remotely.
ITelagen also provides unlimited onsite and remote technical support for businesses. Its platform monitors the activity of servers 24/7 to ensure the security of client applications. The ITelagen cloud-based system supports and manages patients’ EHRs, as well as assists with coding and billing records, medical and insurance claims, and categorizing insurance collections. ITelagen provides disaster recovery, and related services to update and back up data. A range of support services for NextGen Healthcare products including professional services, training, hosting and traditional IT support are available as well; making it a one-stop shop for electronic health record (EHR) solutions.
