NFL Star Kam Chancellor Returns to Norfolk for Annual Charity Weekend
Norfolk, Va. (PRWEB) May 19, 2017 -- Kam Cares Foundation — founded by Kam Chancellor of the Seattle Seahawks — will present Bam Bam’s Spring Jam 2017 — May 26 and 27 in Norfolk, Va. This community event, featuring Chancellor and several recognizable names from the NFL and NBA, along with local media personalities, serves as the foundation’s largest fundraising event of the year to support its mission to equip children from underserved communities in the Hampton Roads and Seattle areas with educational, health, and wellness tools and resources to improve academic outcomes.
The weekend will kick off with an Awards Gala on Friday, May 26 — hosted by Bruce Rader of WAVY-TV 10 and Dale Murray of 95.7 R&B — at Norfolk’s new hotspot, The Main. In addition to live music by The Fuzz Band and raffle prizes, the Gala will feature the inaugural Community MVP Awards ceremony, where local leaders and philanthropists will be recognized for their contributions to youth initiatives. Honorees include: Mayor Kenneth Alexander, City of Norfolk; Brandon “Shaggy” Stokes, Z104; Antoine Bethea and Elton Brown, Shutdown Academy; and Michael Caprio and Domonique Sumler, Norfolk Public Schools.
“I am excited about the continued growth of Kam Cares Foundation and our contributions to youth in Hampton Roads, but I also recognize that it takes an entire community to affect real change,” said Kam Chancellor. “These events provide us with an opportunity to encourage local support, while also recognizing the efforts of likeminded community leaders — doing their part to enhance the lives of children who need us most.”
Bam Bam’s Spring Jam will continue on Saturday, May 27 with the Community Cookout & Carnival at Town Point Park. This free event is open to the public and will feature live music from BJ Griffin & The Galaxy Groove and a patriotic musical presentation by The Hurrah Players in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.
The weekend festivities will close at the Ted Constant Convocation Center with a local favorite — the Spring Jam Celebrity Basketball Game. Hosted by Grammy Award winning DJ Babey Drew and Shaggy from Z104, the game will include a special half-time performance featuring 11-year-old twin celebrity DJs Amira & Kayla and an impressive roster of former and current superstars from the NFL and NBA. The lineup includes Seattle Seahawks players Cliff Avril, Michael Bennett, Sidney Rice, Jeremy Lane, in addition to Tyrod Taylor (Buffalo Bills), Josh Norman (Washington Redskins), Marshawn Lynch (Oakland Raiders), Briante Weber (Charlotte Hornets), BW Webb (Chicago Bears), LaRoy Reynolds (Atlanta Falcons), Kyle O’Quinn (New York Knicks), and several others.
Presenting Sponsors of Bam Bam’s Spring Jam include: The City of Norfolk, WAVY TV-10, FOX 43, Cox Charities, and Entercom. For more information about Bam Bam’s Spring Jam 2017 or to purchase tickets, please visit http://www.kamcaresfoundation.org.
