WATERPLUS Receives NSF-61 Certifications for High Efficiency Filtration Media - OxiPlus75™ and SandPlus™

WATERPLUS, a subsidiary of WATERSURPLUS receives drinking water NSF-61 certifications for its filtration media for municipal applications.

Catalytic filter medias are very efficient at the removal of Iron, Manganese, Hydrogen Sulfide and at the co-precipitation of Arsenic and Radium from groundwater for potable use. Many municipal groundwater supplies across the USA require treatment and removal of one or more of these constituents to meet primary or secondary drinking water standards. Waterplus™ is announcing its OxiPlus75™ media, an NSF-61 approved media with Manganese Dioxide as an oxidation catalyst. This media is very effective at removing these impurities. This media promotes oxidation and precipitation of iron and manganese without the need for the addition of permanganate or the need for a contact basin for contaminant reaction time. This media has been included in the design of water treatment systems for two projects currently under construction - the Village of Random Lake, Wisconsin and the Town of Greenville, Wisconsin. These projects utilize surface loading rates in the range of 6-9 gpm per square feet of filter area allowing for both compact and economical automated potable water treatment plants.

Sand filtration is used in many water applications to remove suspended solids prior to downstream treatment such as reverse osmosis (RO). Suspended solids may occur from oxidized metals, precipitation, cellulosic residue from decay of natural organic matters, surface erosion, algae, and other industrial sources. It is generally desired to have filters that can remove suspended solids down to few microns. Most of the traditional filter media provide filtration of particles down to 10-15 microns. WATERPLUS is happy to announce availability of its high efficiency SandPlus™ filtration media that can provide filtration down to 2-5 microns, a range highly desired for downstream treatment with RO. This weak zeolite media is also a high loading rate media which uses the entire bed depth for filtration and allows design surface loading rates in the 10-15 gpm per square feet range for more compact and cost efficient treatment systems. This media is also NSF-61 certified for potable water applications.
