Winners include towns from Arizona, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Illinois.

TurboTenant, a technology startup that offers free landlord software, researched one hundred American college towns with major universities and was able to identify the top five. The criteria was based on rental costs within five miles of each major university, sports culture, ease of access to an array of amenities including proximity to entertainment, a vibrant downtown, restaurants, coffee shops and outdoor entertainment.

During the study, TurboTenant picked up on Ohio State University in Columbus, OH; Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ; Penn State in State College, PA; University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Champaign, IL and Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI.

East Lansing was ranked as the most favorable with a total undergrad enrollment of over 39,000 and 2-bedroom rental prices as low as $844, an enthusiastic college sports following, outdoor activities, food, drinks, coffee and thrilling events throughout the year.
