“We’ve essentially retooled our Barcode Reader SDK, so the use of APIs is more convenient for developers."

Dynamsoft has updated its Barcode Reader software development kit (SDK) with standalone JavaScript programming interfaces (API) to give developers greater flexibility and speed to develop comprehensive barcode decoding web applications. The new SDK is version 5.1

Previously, the SDK’s barcode JavaScript APIs acted as an add-on to the company’s Web document scanning SDK, Dynamic Web TWAIN. The redesign now provides the APIs as a separate module, thus allowing more flexible usage. Also, the company has now embedded a new common Dynamsoft service that enables better communication and co-usage of Dynamsoft's Web-based document capture SDKs. With the new version, users can more easily implement barcode reading in JavaScript from webcams, from scanned documents, or from image files.

The new version builds upon updates provided earlier this year. In March, a new deblur algorithm for 1D barcodes was added. It is particularly useful for scanning linear barcodes from out-of-focus, blurred images. Another March update allows developers to specify the capture device, which can include a scanner, camera or fax machine used to scan barcode images. When set, the SDK can then apply an appropriate image processing technique specific to the images captured from that device. And, a multi-thread capability for 1D barcode reading and decoding was implemented to improve barcode decoding performance.

“We’ve essentially retooled our Barcode Reader SDK, so the use of APIs is more convenient for developers,” said Amy Gu, Vice President at Dynamsoft.“ And, regarding the new core communication design structure our customers requested from us, it enables greater installation flexibilities and freedom from extra work.”

Supported 1D barcodes, or linear barcodes, include Code 39, Code 128, Code 93, Codabar, Interleaved 2 of 5, Industrial 2 of 5, EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E. Supported 2D barcodes include QR code, Datamatrix, and PDF417.
