Tenth Annual Charles E. Holman Morgellons Disease Conference Provided Undeniable Evidence into the Causation and Reality of Morgellons Disease
Austin, TX (PRWEB) May 23, 2017 -- The 10th Annual Charles E. Holman Morgellons Disease Conference was held in Austin, TX on April 29- April 30. The Foundation has grown in the past ten years from a small grassroots movement into an internationally known and respected organization, dedicated to validating and destigmatizing this illness to the medical community and discovering the true cause of this baffling illness. Other key goals have been patient advocacy, educating patients suffering with this disorder about their illness, and help medical professionals better understand the etiological factors, diagnosis and treatment of patients with Morgellons. Although we now know, through controlled scientific studies using sensitive molecular methodologies, that this disease is associated with infection by various species of Borrelia, and may be a manifestation of Lyme disease and/or relapsing fever, thousands of patients around the world are still suffering with the effects of this debilitating, disfiguring disease.
The presentations on Saturday and Sunday included topics relating to research findings, testing methods and various treatment modalities that are being successfully implemented. Pi Ware, an Emmy award-winning filmmaker, showed the latest preview of his upcoming documentary “Skin Deep – The Battle Over Morgellons.” His crew filmed the entire conference, including some personal interviews with patients, physicians and researchers. This film will be a game changer for Morgellons patients.
Steven Feldman, MD, PhD, Wake Forest, N.C., a vocal challenger of Morgellons disease, gave a talk on how to have a better experience at your doctor visit. He stated numerous times that there is no such thing as a bad doctor, only bad patients that give up too quickly when the doctor will not acknowledge their disease symptoms. A lively and heated question and answer session followed his presentation and will provide riveting footage for the Conference DVD’s and the documentary.
The Charles E. Holman Morgellons Disease Foundation’s (CEHMFD) Executive Director, Cindy Casey, RN, announced that the Foundation now has a presence in Europe. They have teamed up with Dr. Carsten Nicolaus and his collegues at Borreliose Centrum in Augsburg, Germany to create a European subsidiary of the CEHMDF. The new European website http://morgellons-europe.org/en/welcome/ was recently launched. Plans are in the works for a European conference to address the needs of that patient population.
On Monday, May 1st, conference attendees were invited to join in with the Texas Lyme Disease Association (TXLDA) in a Lyme/Morgellons Walk and Rally which they had planned. The event took place on the grounds and steps of the Texas State Capitol. Well over 100 attendees participated in this inspiring event. Speeches were given by several members of TXLDA. Cindy Casey and Marianne Middelveen spoke on behalf of Morgellons patients.
