National Association of Dental Laboratories Informs Patients on Benefits of Dental Veneers
(PRWEB) May 23, 2017 -- Porcelain veneers, which were highly sought after treatment options in the early 2000’s, are increasing in popularity again with patients’ desire to achieve the “perfect smile.” The National Association of Dental Laboratories (NADL) is informing patients of what they should be aware of when receiving veneers and other types of dental restorations.
According to National Board for Certification in Dental Laboratory Technology Chair Heather Voss, CDT, veneers are a great option for many dental patients. These custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials can be placed on the front of the teeth to mask mild to moderate tooth discolorations, though they also offer many other esthetic benefits. For example, the Academy of General Dentistry reports that they also serve to correct minor misalignments and reshape peg-shaped and undersized teeth.
“Although no one dental treatment is perfect for everyone, having alternatives to other traditional dental procedures makes dental healthcare accessible to a broader group of patients,” says Voss. “Another key component to successful treatment is working with a dentist you can trust – which means asking the right questions about who is actually making your veneers.”
Patients have the right to know where their restorations are from and the qualifications of the business that made the restoration. NADL’s campaign, “What’s In Your Mouth?” suggests patients assess the quality of their restorations by asking their dentists these five basic questions:
1. “Do you use a Certified Dental Technician for your laboratory work?”
2. “Is the laboratory you work with certified and by whom?”
3. “Where is your dental laboratory located?”
4. “What patient contact materials are in the restorations you are prescribing for the treatment plan?”
5. “How does your dental practice ensure that it is not using misbranded or grey market dental implant parts?”
