Scartelli Olszewski Wins Record $10 million Verdict in Malpractice Case
Scranton, Pennsylvania (PRWEB) May 25, 2017 -- Wilkes-Barre, PA (May, 2017 Case Number 2015-06653 in Luzerne County Court, Luzerne County is the 11th Judicial District of Pennsylvania): In a record-setting medical malpractice case litigated by Scartelli-Olszewski founding partners Melissa Scartelli and Peter Paul Olszewski Jr., a Luzerne County jury awarded $10 million to a Nanticoke man, who suffered severe injuries as a result of negligence by Geisinger Clinic and Geisinger physicians, Stephen Evans, D.O. and Christian Basque, M.D.
The award was made to Joseph Shimko, 21, who was a juvenile at the time of the incident. The jury found that the defendants failed to properly treat Shimko and misdiagnosed him on two separate occasions over a 14- month period. As a result, Shimko developed complex pilonidal disease, which required aggressive treatment and eight surgeries, leaving him with permanent disfigurement and lifelong problems.
“It’s been a long road for Joe Shimko and we are thrilled the jury took into account what he’s been through and how he will suffer from this malpractice for the rest of his life” said Attorney Melissa Scartelli, lead counsel for Mr. Shimko. Attorney Scartelli was assisted by her law partner, Attorney Peter Paul Olszewski, Jr.
