Following a successful release in 2016 where it shot to the #1 bestseller position in the US, the unabridged multicast audiobook for L. Ron Hubbard's bestselling novel, "Battlefield Earth" received the Audie Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Audio Publishers Association (APA) in the category of EXCELLENCE IN MARKETING.
Each year the APA honors the best titles in audio publishing. The presentation of the award was made at the Audio Publishers Association Audie's awards ceremony held at the French Institute Alliance Francaise in New York City, Thursday night.
The Excellence In Marketing Audie is awarded to the audiobook and promotion campaign that contributed most to generating attention and bringing in new listeners, whether for a single title, series, or initiative. Judges considered marketing, PR, social media, store placement, innovation, creativity, and reach.
The Competition: The Audies awards competition is the only awards program in the United States devoted entirely to recognizing distinction in audiobooks and spoken word entertainment. The committee administers and ensures the integrity of the competition, coordinating the work of over 200 dedicated judges.
Publishers Weekly proclaimed the 47 ½ hour, 67 actors and over 150,000 sound effects production of the unabridged story featuring 67 actors an "Action-packed blockbuster of an audio production" and Audiofile Magazine called it "A vivid movie of the mind."
"A lot of work by hundreds of people went into this production and we had some of the best names in audiobooks on this project. The story by L. Ron Hubbard is what really makes this audiobook so great enabling a successful campaign," said John Goodwin, President and publisher of Galaxy Press.
Upon its release last year, the Battlefield Earth audiobook hit the #1 spot for audiobooks in US, received an Earphones Award and was included in AudioFile Magazine's Best Audiobooks of 2016 for science fiction.
With 19 New York Times bestsellers and more than 350 million copies of his works in circulation, L. Ron Hubbard is among the most acclaimed and widely read authors of our time. In celebration of his fiftieth anniversary as an author, he again returned to the forefront of popular literature with his monumental epics Battlefield Earth and the ten-volume Mission Earth series. Together, these titles dominated international bestseller lists for 153 weeks, and still remain among the all-time classic works of modern speculative fiction.
