St. Anne’s-Belfield Adding Solar to Its World-Class Facilities
Charlottesville, VA (PRWEB) June 09, 2017 -- St. Anne’s-Belfield School, one of the top ranked independent schools in Virginia, today announced that construction has commenced on a solar energy system aiming to produce 20% of the Belfield campus’ energy. Contributed by an anonymous donor, the solar arrays will also add to the School’s efforts to continually create world-class facilities for its students while reducing its impact on the environment.
In collaboration with Charlottesville-based commercial solar company Sun Tribe Solar, over 1,000 solar panels will be installed on three different buildings at the Learning Village.
“This project will be one of the largest of its kind in Virginia, and will offset the School’s carbon footprint by more than 10,000 tons,” said Head of School David Lourie. “We are incredibly excited to be able to make these additions to our buildings and know that we are being responsible stewards of our resources and setting an excellent example for our students.”
“The impact of the St. Anne’s-Belfield solar project is significant, both for the School and on the climate,” said Devin Welch, co-founder at Sun Tribe Solar. “The project is also a terrific way for students to learn about renewable energy and the effect it has on them now and in the future. This fits right in with Sun Tribe Solar’s mission, and we are thrilled that the School has partnered with us for this project.”
The project is currently underway and anticipated completion is August of 2017. There will be a formal ceremony to celebrate the operational array later this year.
