panOpen is pleased to announce the appointment of Randy Shuken to its Board of Directors. Randy brings deep and broad business experience across a number of markets. Randy worked for MasterCard Worldwide for more than 25 years, helping the company to go from turnaround to successful IPO and Fortune 100 company ($5Bn to >$100Bn market cap since IPO). Since then, Randy has worked with numerous startups in Fintech, Ecommerce, and Edtech. In addition to his board and investor roles at panOpen, Randy is currently Chairman of the Board at BizEquity and advisor to several start-up and established companies. Randy is also Co-Founder and CEO of Quero Handmade Shoes, a disruptive online business that offers quality, made-to-order shoes at a fraction of the price of competitive offerings.

“Randy brings to the Board an outstanding set of credentials that will help the company meet its goals,” noted panOpen founder and CEO Brian Jacobs. “His skills and experience allow him to be at home in a broad range of company environments, from large multinational corporations to bootstrapping start-ups; I’m thrilled to work with him as we help Open Educational Resources (OER) become part of mainstream practices.”

panOpen continues to grow rapidly and is emerging as one of the leading SaaS platforms supporting institutional use of OER. The company is working with colleges across the country to deliver on the promise of open content.

“I am impressed not only with the social mission of the company to make education better and more affordable but also with its potential to become a significant global business that helps radically reshape educational practices and improve outcomes,” commented Mr. Shuken. “It’s clear that educational institutions are now driving transformations in their learning capabilities, and that panOpen’s premier support of open educational content can play an instrumental role, both domestically and abroad.”

About panOpen
Designed by educators, panOpen is a learning platform that realizes the promise of OER by providing all of the components required for its widespread use. panOpen offers complete peer-reviewed content, customization tools, assessments, analytics, LMS integration, and a means of financially sustaining campus-based OER efforts. With panOpen, faculty adopt enhanced interactive OER as they would a commercial textbook, with confidence in the quality and reliability of the content. panOpen preserves the virtues of OER—radically reducing textbook costs and freeing faculty from the constraints of commercial copyright—while delivering the quality, features, and ease-of-use faculty expect from their learning materials. The result has enormous implications for pedagogical practices, changing the relationships of instructors and students to their educational content.
