Dog Days of Summer -- Philadelphia Marathon

“They’re going to have the same experience the marathoners have, and see all of the great points of interest and historic sites in the city,” said Marathon Executive Director Leo Dignam of those running the Half Marathon this year.

The heat is on in Philadelphia. Early August typically offers a challenge to distance runners in the form of heat and humidity. But this weekend runners can take a cool $10 off of registration for the Philadelphia Marathon, Half Marathon or either the Liberty or Independence Challenge.

This promotion begins 12:01am Friday, August 4 and ends at midnight Sunday night, August 6.

Runners signing up for either the Philadelphia Marathon (November 19) or the Half Marathon (November 18) during the promotion period will receive $10 off. The discount is also good for the Independence (8K and Full Marathon) and Liberty Bell (Half Marathon and Full Marathon) Challenges.

Those who sign-up for the Half Marathon will run in the footsteps of America’s Founding Fathers as this year’s course takes runners through Philadelphia’s Historic District and past many of our Nation’s most treasured symbols.

“They’re going to have the same experience the marathoners have, and see all of the great points of interest and historic sites in the city,” said Marathon Executive Director Leo Dignam of those running the Half Marathon this year.

Included on the Half Marathon course are The Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, City Hall, the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, the National Museum of American Jewish History, Ben Franklin’s Grave, the U.S. Mint, the National Constitution Center, Mother Bethel AME Church, the Church of the Holy Trinity on Rittenhouse Square, the University of Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia Zoo, a crossing of the Girard Street Bridge and its sweeping vistas of the Schuylkill River, Mount Pleasant Mansion, Boat House Row, and finally the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
