Berkeley Nucleonics Adds Custom Designs to Complex Femtosecond Timing Needs
Berkeley Nucleonics, founded in 1963, is a provider of precise timing instrumentation known as Digital Delay Generators. Researchers often require the ability to delay trigger and gate signals with extremely high precision and low jitter. Recent product rollouts by Berkeley Nucleonics include 2 picosecond jitter designs, 20 channel units and OEM Cards for embedded timing applications.
Researchers often need to control, gate, delay or pulse experiments with complex pulse trains and timing sequences. A standard COTS product may not offer the flexibility needed, driving design engineers at BNC to develop a new custom platform for the most demanding needs. New channel features like ‘Dual Trigger’ of Sub-Picosecond Delay Resolution now fall into our customs design group, allowing OEMs to pull from a wide range of capability and meet almost any timing need.
What is a Dual Trigger? As research experimentation grows in complexity, scientists have asked for a single timing system that can trigger from 2 varying input signals (Trigger A and Trigger B). This allows the single DUT to be excited or activated based on multiple stimuli events. Dual-Trigger Digital Delay Generators sacrifice a Gate Input to accommodate the different BNC connections representing Trigger A and Trigger B. For even greater complexity in timing schemes, the company offers an 8-Trigger Digital Delay Generator.
“While we offer a range of standard, cost-effective, high quality Pulse and Delay Generators, we’ve toiled on unique waveform and timing requirements to deliver an impressive line of specialty products. I think that sets us apart,” remarks Junior Choe, Timing Systems Product Manager.
