LiveProcess to Provide Emergency Preparedness System to Penn Medicine
Chelmsford, Mass. (PRWEB) August 29, 2017 -- LiveProcess, a leader in emergency management and clinical collaboration systems for healthcare, announced it has signed a contract with the University of Pennsylvania Health System to provide the LiveProcess emergency management system for communication and coordination across all Penn Medicine facilities, including ambulatory and home health care services.
The LiveProcess emergency management system supports universal employee notification and response in as little as 3 to 17 minutes. Real-time response capabilities from mobile phones and tablets, and the use of cloud-based collaborative event boards, allow healthcare organizations using the LiveProcess system to achieve rapid situational awareness within departments, between facilities, across a health system, with executives and incident command, and with regional healthcare coalitions.
“Health systems need to reach each employee quickly in an emergency, wherever that person may be – in the hospital, in the community, or at home. PennMed is taking a proactive approach to emergency management,” said Terry Zysk, CEO of LiveProcess. “We are pleased to provide PennMed with an efficient way to achieve rapid notification and situational awareness in disasters, severe weather, cyberattacks, and other adverse events – as well as everyday coordination.“
“Efficient communication is a cornerstone of our emergency management and safety department’s mission to ensure patient and staff safety, maintain continuity of care and operations, and minimize facility damage in an emergency or disaster situation,” said John Wierzbowski, MSc., MPH, CHEP, corporate manager for enterprise business continuity and emergency operations at University of Pennsylvania Health System.
Compliance with the CMS emergency preparedness rule
The CMS emergency preparedness rule, which takes effect on November 16, requires hospitals and health systems to have redundant communication capabilities for internal coordination that extend to all employees wherever they may be. The CMS rule also requires an integrated system for emergency planning and preparedness that focuses on capacities and capabilities, even for outpatient settings. The LiveProcess emergency preparedness system provided to Penn Medicine supports these types of emergency planning and communications, including the new requirements for ambulatory care operations.
The LiveProcess emergency preparedness system can also connect home health care personnel with other departments and care facilities, and these personnel with each other. For example, the LiveProcess cloud-based event board can report information back to a centralized area for use in assessing the impact of an emergency on care delivery to vulnerable home health patients. This information can be shared with home health leadership and hospital command centers.

While the LiveProcess system provides an efficient way for healthcare systems to improve situational awareness and response for any kind of emergency, many LiveProcess customers find the system also contributes to improved agility in healthcare delivery every day. From filling shift coverage gaps, paging physicians, improving ED throughput, to streamlining facility operations and patient care, it is flexible enough to use for everyday collaboration and coordination, as well as emergency events.
