New Orleans Chefs & Purveyors To Hold Gift Card Drive On August 29-31st, To Support Houston Area Hospitality Workers
New Orleans, LA (PRWEB) August 30, 2017 -- As New Orleans commemorates the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath, a collection of local restaurateurs and hospitality community members is holding a gift card drive to support Houston-area friends and neighbors that helped so many in the community 12 years ago.
In a show of solidarity to those affected by Hurricane Harvey, several New Orleans area restaurants will be accepting gift cards during normal operating hours on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 through Thursday, August 30, 1 2017, to be given to families of restaurant and service industry workers in the Houston area to assist in their recovery. Gift cards are encouraged from Visa or American Express or from specialty stores such as Target, Wal Mart, Home Depot, Lowes, Bed Bath and Beyond, Rite Aid and/or CVS.
For those wanting to assist who live outside of the New Orleans area, they may donate online to the "Hurricane Harvey Hospitality Employee Relief Fund" by noting #WithLoveFromNOLA on their donation at http://www.gnof.org/give-now.
“As we watch the footage of the catastrophic flooding in Houston, we know too well the sense of hopelessness and despair that so many in the area are feeling,” said Will Samuels, owner of Pizza Nola. He continued, “What better way to mark the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina than to help provide support to so many who are now affected by the area’s devastation?”
Chef Amy Cyrex Sins, owner of the New Orleans culinary experience Langlois said, “There are more than 10,000 restaurants in the Houston area and this is our chance to return the hospitality after Hurricane Katrina.” In the August 2016, floods in South Louisiana, Sins coordinated a group of local chefs and purveyors who cooked and served over 100,000 meals in affected areas.
All gift cards will be donated this weekend to Houston area restaurant groups in conjunction
with individual chefs and restaurant owners to be given directly to needy families. Additional efforts are being coordinated by members of the New Orleans hospitality community to provide “boots on the ground” support in affected areas. The group encourages the use of #WithLoveFromNOLA throughout the day on August 29th. You can follow along and see updates on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/262933897426740/
