“Strategy deployment, also known as hoshin planning, has the answers” to the question of how best to connect people with company goals.

Business executives, managers, and lean management leaders, can learn how to better align people with the company’s purpose and objectives at the presentation “Strategy Deployment and Alignment Through Hoshin” by Lean Enterprise Institute COO Mark Reich.

Reich will give the presentation October 10, 2017, 8:30 to 10:00 a.m., at the Iowa Lean Consortium Fall Conference, in Altoona, IA. The Iowa Lean Consortium organizes the conference annually.

Many organizations struggle with how to define annual objectives and develop people’s capabilities based on those objectives.

“Strategy deployment, also known as hoshin planning, has the answers,” said Reich, a former executive with Toyota’s corporate strategy division where he implemented the automaker’s strategy deployment process.

During the presentation, he’ll cover:

  • A fundamental strategy deployment framework for successfully aligning an organization vertically and horizontally.
  • How to effectively align functions and activities with strategic objectives.
  • How managers can build a culture where management is purposeful in its approach.
  • How hoshin planning can be utilized as a key component of leadership development.
  • The long-term benefits of hoshin planning.

About Mark Reich
Mark Reich is chief operations officer of the Lean Enterprise Institute (LEI). He oversees day-to-day operations, strategy, publishing, training, and leads the Co-Learning Partners program that assists companies engaged in lean transformations. Prior to LEI, he spent 23 years at Toyota, most recently as general manager of the Toyota Production System Support Center, where he doubled the number of companies supported from 20 to 40. He transitioned it to nonprofit status to better support its mission of strengthening North American manufacturing. Previously, Reich was assistant general manager, corporate strategy division. He is author of the forthcoming book, Managing on Purpose.
