Mary McNaughton channels her emotional abuse into first book

When Mary McNaughton was a teenager, the feelings of isolation and neglect permeated her every day and she felt unwelcomed by her own family. So, when the time came for her to forge her own life, she used the emotional sufferings of her past to spur her forward. She channels those same feelings into her new book “Sin of Ambition.”

“Sin of Ambition” chronicles the life of Meg Newport. After a childhood riddled with emotional trauma and physical abuse, Meg desperately searches for stability and fulfillment in her personal and professional life. Determined to escape her small town and indifferent family, Meg enrolls at the University of London, Canada, gets a job at a prestigious hotel and meets the love of her life.

Meg’s greed soon corrupts her, sabotaging her own happiness. Suddenly she finds herself cutting deals with the billionaire owner of the hotel, marrying his playboy son and secretly investing in her own hotel business. Her ambition leaves her with the loss of all she has built and left questioning exactly what she wants out of life.

“Many people suffer through feelings of neglect or being unwanted,” McNaughton said. “I think that forms a yearning for validation later in life. Sin of Ambition will provide insight into how people deal with their self-esteem and self-perception after abuse.”
