Award-winning Poet Harry E. Gilleland, Jr Announces Publication of His Fifth Poetry Book, Which Is Entiled “Poetry by an Elderly, Liberal, White Guy”

Gilleland, Jr has entitled his fifth book of poetry “Poetry by an Elderly, Liberal, White Guy.” The poetry in this collection of one hundred storoems and poems is accessible to all readers, being easy to read and understand. These poems will entertain readers, either by being thought-provoking, emotionally-engaging, or amusing. Seventy-five of these poetry pieces address general topics, such as Nature, daily life, and remembrances, whereas ten poems deal with issues associated with the elderly and fifteen poems are political works written with Gilleland’s liberal viewpoint. Author Bio: Harry E. Gilleland, Jr. is a poet and a novelist. He is an elderly (72 years old), liberal Democrat, born in Macon, Georgia and currently living in Shreveport, Louisiana (since 1975). He received three degrees from The University of Georgia in Athens (B.S. in 1966, M.S. in 1968, and Ph.D. in Microbiology in 1973). Harry served three years as a captain in the U.S. Army, including a short tour in Vietnam. After receiving his Ph.D, he traveled to London, Ontario, Canada for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Western Ontario. Harry returned to the South in 1975 to escape the frozen North and to join the faculty of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport, LA. As a professor Dr. Gilleland taught medical and graduate students and performed vaccine research until he retired in 2004. Following retirement as a scientist, Harry turned to creative writing as a poet and a novelist. Harry served three years as Editor-in-chief for 4RV Publishing. He has an on-line presence as a poet at several poetry sites. Harry has been quite happily married for over thirty-one years to his wonderful wife Linda. Between them they have four children and five grandchildren at present. He has now published five collections of his poetry as books. Harry is known for the rhyming storoem poetic format he pioneered. In addition, Gilleland has published six fiction novels to date.
