'Lakewood Forward' Launches to Activate Community
Lakewood, Colorado (PRWEB) September 14, 2017 -- Today, leading members of the Lakewood community announced the launch of Lakewood Forward, a not-for-profit civic organization for those interested in promoting an inclusive, vibrant, prosperous, and sustainable Lakewood.
The organization was created to inform, inspire, activate, and strengthen the Lakewood community. While Lakewood has been a national leader in community building, winning All-America City Awards in 2011 and 2016, the launch of Lakewood Forward will provide another opportunity for citizens to channel their civic pride and activism amidst unprecedented growth and ever-changing environmental, political, and social conditions.
“Lakewood Forward is an organization that embraces change and innovation while respecting the city’s heritage,” said George Valuck, a longtime leader in the city’s business community and member of the Lakewood Forward Advisory Board. “Our goal is to elevate ideas and solutions that will outlast institutions and government cycles.”
According to Julian Kahn, also a founding member of the Lakewood Forward Advisory Board, “Lakewood’s residents and businesses deserve responsible analysis of the facts before making decisions vital to our community’s future. Those decisions that affect both the present and the future of Lakewood should be thoughtfully studied, discussed and acted on by the community at-large.”
A mix of membership fees and grants from individuals and organizations that embrace the organization’s common vision will support Lakewood Forward. The group will be guided by an Advisory Board. In addition to Valuck and Kahn, founding Advisory Board members also include Irene Griego, Ted Heyd, Carrie Mesch, Tom Murray, Sally Reed, Sandie Weathers, and Doug Whitten. All members of the Board are unpaid, and serve on a volunteer basis.
Lakewood Forward welcomes both individual and organizational members to join in the organization’s effort. For more information, visit http://www.lakewoodforward.org, and lend your voice on important topics facing our city.
