With Mark Johson and Lakshmi Sarma Ramani onboard, we can expand what we offer to organizations in Washington D.C.’s extensive trade association and non-profit sector, providing on-demand access to commercially-oriented, seasoned non-profit counsel at a reasonable hourly rate.

Outside GC LLC, the nation’s leading provider of on-demand, in-house legal counsel services, today announces the addition of Mark Johnson and Lakshmi Sarma Ramani to the firm’s Washington D.C. metro-area team, significantly enhancing the group’s non-profit and trade association capabilities.

Mark Johnson has over 20 years of experience working with D.C.-based trade associations and other non-profit organizations, both as outside counsel and as an in-house attorney. Mark regularly advises clients on regulatory and public policy issues, interacting with federal oversight agencies as needed, and handles a broad range of legal and operational issues, including the creation, structuring and governance of 501(c)(6) industry trade associations and other nonprofit and commercial organizations. Prior to joining Outside GC, Mark practiced in the Washington, DC office of the international law firm, Squire Patton Boggs, as a member in its Telecommunications and Data Privacy practice groups.  Mark also served as Deputy General Counsel for the Intelligent Transportation Society America, a technology and transportation trade association.

Lakshmi Sarma Ramani is an accomplished attorney with considerable experience handling both legal and operational matters on behalf of tax-exempt organizations. Prior to joining Outside GC, Lakshmi served as General Counsel and Assistant Secretary at the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) where she negotiated a range of agreements with public and private parties, advised on strategic initiatives and worked closely with the CEO and its boards on operational and governance issues. Prior to NAEYC, Lakshmi served as the lead global attorney for all finance, tax, technology, marketing, membership and fundraising matters at The Nature Conservancy (TNC), where she also managed various legal and regulatory compliance matters.

“Trade associations and non-profits operate in complex business environments,” explained Jon Levitt, managing member of Outside GC. “With Mark and Lakshmi onboard, we can expand what we offer to organizations in Washington D.C.’s extensive trade association and non-profit sector, providing on-demand access to commercially-oriented, seasoned non-profit counsel like Mark and Lakshmi at a reasonable hourly rate.”
