New Company, Brighten Up!, Shines the Spotlight on Mental Health Awareness and the Full Spectrum of Available, Qualified Methods of Treatment
Clifton Park, NY (PRWEB) September 15, 2017 -- A new company, Brighten Up!, has taken center stage in the mission to bring awareness and accessibility to all of the suggested treatments being used by today’s Mental Health Professionals.
Brighten Up’s Founder, Donna Finn-Kuo, a psychiatric nurse practitioner, explains, “despite the fact that 20% of our population lives with some form of mental health issue, our society continues to struggle with lack of awareness, stigma around mental illness and limited access to mental health services. Brighten Up was created to illuminate the signs and symptoms of mental illness, reiterate that it is chemical and not a character imbalance and to encourage a comprehensive approach to treatment. Numerous studies indicate that incorporating education, exercise, positive thinking and talk therapy to medication regiments improves outcomes by as much as 30%. We intend to improve access to qualified methods of treatment which enhance medication therapy.”
Brighten Up is pioneering a simple, three-step approach to improving mental health awareness and access to advanced treatment for mental illness. First, Brighten Up will focus on promoting positive thinking with our beautiful artist-rendered series of positive messages offered on everyday items. Second, Brighten Up has partnered with United Concierge Medicine, which offers telepsychiatry that can provide an alternative method for medication management. Third, Brighten Up will host a series of webinars on a number of mental health-related educational topics. The webinar phase of Brighten Up is expected in the first quarter of 2018.
“Brighten Up! is a perfect fit that embodies the UCM mission and Core Values,” says Keith Algozzine, PA-C, Chief Executive Officer for UCM. “Positive thinking and mental health awareness are critical needs in healthcare today. We are proud to offer our patients the support they need from an organization they can trust.”
Kathleen Schechner, president of Brighten Up explains, “For people struggling with a mental illness, or who have a friend or family member who may have mental health issues, Brighten Up will be a one-stop-shop for support. We will provide a positive, stigma-free environment. For example, during this initial phase of Brighten Up, everyone will have access to positive motivational sayings printed on typical, everyday items in order to encourage them to think positive every single day. Sayings such as ‘Spectrums Make Beautiful Rainbows,’ focus on a multitude of mental health issues.”
To boost both national and regional awareness for mental health, Brighten Up has pledged 10% of its net profit to the National Association for Mental Illness (NAMI). Wendy Burch, Executive Director, NAMI-NYS, says, “We are so grateful to Brighten Up for its incredibly generous donation to our organization. We are excited to be working with a company whose goals so effectively complement NAMI’s own intent to provide much-needed support to people living with mental illness. We’re looking forward to cooperating on projects that support our shared aim of improving the lives of those with behavioral health issues.”
