“’The Dream’ of a happily-ever-after marriage and family is the major goal of many women, especially Christian women. When divorce occurs, the devastation and heartbreak make one wonder, ‘How will I get through this?’ and “Will I ever be happy again?’” --Marilyn Leighman, Ph.D., LPC
Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Marilyn Leighman, Ph.D., LPC’s new book offers insights and hope for those experiencing divorce.
When someone dies, family and friends gather around the bereaved to offer comfort and support. When divorce happens, however, no one comes to the door with a casserole and condolences. The one left behind feels isolated. He or she is alone for the first time after years of living within a family. Family and friends often choose sides. Even those who love both parties become aloof in order to remain neutral. Divorce is a death. It is the death of a marriage.
In the “Divorce: The Loss of the Dream,” seven women tell the stories of their marriages, divorces, and recoveries. Although the stories are different, they share similar traumas and truths. Each person offers insights into how others can overcome the trauma of divorce, survive in the “new normal,” and choose happiness for themselves and their families. Most of all, they show how to trust in God and offer hope for the future.
