DataON™ Announces the TracSystem Lightning Series of Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI), the First Certified Intel Select Solution with Windows Server Software-Defined
Anaheim, California (PRWEB) September 25, 2017 -- DataON, an industry-leading provider of hyper-converged cluster appliances (HCCA) and optimized storage systems for Windows Server environments, today announces the Lightning series of DataON TracSystem hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) featuring Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors with Intel C620 Series Chipsets and powered by Intel® Optane™ SSDs.
DataON TracSystem is a fully integrated and turnkey Windows Server 2016 HCI solution that delivers on the promise of simplicity, scalability and affordability. Comprised of DataON S2D Server Ready Nodes that are field proven with over 600 customers and over 100PB deployed, the TracSystem is customized, performance-tuned and simple-to-deploy with DataON’s MUST visibility, monitoring and management tool.
The TracSystem Lightning series is the first Intel Select Solution with Windows Server Software-Defined Storage. It leverages the Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors Family, Intel® Optane™ Technology and NVM Express (NVMe™) to deliver breakthrough performance and incredible responsiveness, with greater VM density.
- Breakthrough performance and dramatically reduced disk latency with 30% greater IOPS performance (over the previous generation) for write-intensive workloads by leveraging Intel® Optane™ SSDs that are NVMe-based for the fast cache tier in Window Server 2016.
- Greater VM density per cluster with Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors, delivering up to 28 cores per socket, 18 DIMMS per CPU memory density, and 224 physical cores for a 4-node Storage Spaces Direct HCI deployment.
- Highest networking efficiency and throughput with SMB3 RDMA fabric delivering 2x throughput compared to TCP/IP, less than 1 µsec latency from VM-to-VM communication, and fewer CPU cycles per I/O with better core utilization.
Every TracSystem HCI is pre-configured with DataON MUST (Management Utility Software Tool) infrastructure visibility, monitoring and management software, which provides SAN-like storage monitoring features and system alerts based on Windows Health Service faults. The inclusion of MUST is what completes a Windows Server 2016 solution as a viable SAN replacement.
The First Intel Select Solution with Windows Server Software-defined Storage
DataON and Intel have collaborated to create an Intel Select Solution for Windows Server Software-Defined Storage.
Intel Select Solutions are workload-optimized data center solutions that simplify and accelerate the process of selecting and deploying the hardware and software needed for today’s workloads and applications.
Intel Select Solutions:
- Simplify evaluation and eliminate guesswork via tightly specified hardware and software components
- Have pre-defined settings and system wide tuning enabling smooth deployment
- Are designed and benchmarked to perform optimally for specific workloads
Based on Intel Xeon Scalable processors, Intel Select Solutions enable enterprises to make confident choices in deploying data center infrastructure. The Intel Select Solution for Windows Server Software-Defined Storage features:
- Intel Xeon Scalable processors with Intel C620 Series chipsets
- Intel Optane™ SSD DC P4800X Series or Intel® 3D NAND SSDs in the cache tier featuring the NVMe interface
- All-flash in the capacity tier with Intel 3D NAND SSDs using the NVMe or SATA interface
Intel Select Solutions are rigorously tested and benchmarked at a system-wide level. Well-known third party and industry benchmarking tools that simulate real-world loads are used to identify and eliminate pressure points.
“DataON is exclusively focused on customers who have made the ‘Microsoft choice’ for their software-defined data centers,” said Howard Lo, vice president of sales and marketing, DataON. “We are proud to collaborate with Intel and Microsoft to deliver the first Intel Select Solution with Windows Storage Software-Defined Storage, featuring Intel’s newest Xeon Scalable processor.”
“Data center buyers will benefit from the engineering expertise baked into this solution “recipe” for Windows Server Software-Defined Storage,” said Lisa Spelman, vice president and general manager of Intel Xeon Products and Data Center Marketing at Intel. “Having a verified Intel Select Solution that includes Intel Xeon Scalable Processors, Intel Optane SSDs and 3D NAND SSDs provides optimized performance, agility, and efficiency, while accelerating customer paths from evaluation to installation.
This Intel Select Solution has also achieved Windows Server 2016 Logo Certification and workings towards Windows Server Software-Defined program certification. These certifications give customers confidence that this pre-configured and stress-tested solution follows Microsoft’s requirements and best practices for a software-defined data center. The Lightning series is the first platform featuring Intel Xeon Scalable processors with Intel C620 Series chipsets to achieve this certification.
Subodh Bhargava, Senior Program Manager, Windows Server Software Defined, Microsoft said, “We are pleased that DataON and Intel have created a Select Solution with Windows Server 2016 Storage Spaces Direct. Having a solution that is validated by both Microsoft and Intel should give customers the greatest confidence in their choice to deploy a Windows Server hyper-converged infrastructure.”
This DataON and Intel Select Solution with Windows Server Software-Defined Storage will be featured at the DataON (#1726) booth at Microsoft Ignite 2017, from September 25-29, 2017 in Orlando, Florida.
Designed for Windows Server 2016 Storage Spaces Direct
DataON TracSystem solutions are built to optimize the full stack of Microsoft Storage Spaces Direct in a hyper-converged platform. They are designed with integrated compute, network and storage infrastructure with near-linear scalability to simplify and maximize the deployment of Microsoft applications, virtualization, data protection and hybrid cloud services. These pre-configured clusters can support over 40 Hyper-V VMs per nodes, for expanded capacity and operational flexibility.
These solutions can achieve over 3M IOPS in a 4-node cluster. They combine high-performance Intel Optane NVMe SSDs with all-flash storage and SMB3 networking to maximize performance and capacity. These appliances run on the Cluster Shared Volumes Resilient File System (ReFS) to maximize data availability, deliver high resiliency, and improve data integrity across scale-out file server (SoFS) and software-defined data center stacks.
Every TracSystem solution is performance tuned for your workloads and benchmarks, includes a customized deployment guide, and is backed by a single point of support from DataON.
