Colorado Sikhs and Interfaith Alliance Serves Second Annual Langar in the Park
Denver, Colorado (PRWEB) October 02, 2017 -- The Sikhs have a long-standing tradition of a Langar, a free meal served to the hungry and homeless. In fact, Sikh communities around the world serves 6.5 million Langar meals every day. The free meal is served to anyone who is hungry without distinction to religion, class, gender, or ethnicity.
“Last year, our partnership with Mile Hi Church was a huge success as we had over 500 volunteers who served 8,000 meals to the hungry and homeless. This year, we are expanding our scope by partnering with the Interfaith Alliance of Colorado and other communities who all believe in equality.” said Dilpreet Jammu, President of Colorado Sikhs.
Executive Director of the Interfaith Alliance of Colorado, Amanda Henderson stated, “Our hope is to bring together people of different faiths to raise awareness that equality is everyone’s fundamental human right. We hope everyone can come by and experience the power behind being in service together.”
This year, the Interfaith Alliance of Colorado, Colorado Sikhs and Mile Hi Church will be joined by First Plymouth Congregational Church, Calvary Baptist Church of Denver, Highlands Church of Denver, Highlands United Methodist Church(Denver), Colorado Muslim Society, Meet the Middle East, Denver Homeless Out Loud, Soul 2 Soul, Together Colorado, Colorado Council of Churchs, Tri State Denver Buddhist Temple, Colorado Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, and the Denver Sikh Gurudwara.
Rev. Shannon O’Hurley, Director of Mile Hi Church Interfaith and Multicultural Ministry, shared some final remarks. “The goal of Interfaith work is to create bridges and opportunities for greater understanding and compassion. The more we can find ways to join together and be of service to others, the more peace we bring to our communities and the world.”
