ESFI Partners with Siemens for a Second Year in Support of Fire Prevention Week
Arlington, VA (PRWEB) October 10, 2017 -- As part of its annual effort to promote Fire Prevention Week, taking place October 8-14, 2017, the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) is partnering with Siemens for the second year in a row to help prevent and protect against fires in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. While ESFI works to raise awareness of the necessary precautions that can help eliminate electrical fire hazards, Siemens technology is at work every day to prevent fires and other catastrophic events in our living and working environments.
“One of our priorities at ESFI is to educate the public about the technology that can prevent fires before they start. AFCI requirements have been in place for over a decade; smoke alarms alone are simply insufficient,” said ESFI President Brett Brenner. “Siemens is on the cutting edge of developing these safety products that provide critical safeguards from fires across residential, commercial, and industrial settings and we are thrilled to partner with them again on this essential campaign.”
ESFI continues to develop resources for at-risk communities living in older homes without updated fire prevention technology. ESFI’s newest Fire Prevention Week infographic, “Fire Prevention - It’s in Your Hands” focuses on the need to have at least two escape routes in your home, and addresses the importance of various fire prevention devices required by the National Electrical Code. Among the practical tips included is the recommended installation of Arc-Fault Circuit-Interrupters (AFCIs), which are devices that can prevent more than 50% of the home electrical fires that occur in the U.S. each year.
“Siemens is dedicated to advancing the technologies that protect every aspect of our lives, whether that’s in our home, at our workplaces, or in our communities,” said Kevin Yates, president of Siemens Energy Management. “We’re excited to team with ESFI for the second year in a row to help bring greater attention to how innovative technologies can protect lives every day on the manufacturing floor, mitigate the risk of devastating wildfires, enable quick building evacuation, and defend against home electrical dangers.”
Fire hazards are a significant concern in a plant or manufacturing environment given the amount of electrical equipment placed on-site. Siemens technology protects workers from potential arc-flash events, an electrical fault that results in a potentially harmful explosion. Siemens also provides technology to help protect against wildfires, which burned more than 5 million acres across the United States in 2016. Wildfires can result from many causes including faults on a utility pole that send molten metal to the ground and ignite the surrounding area. Siemens technology installed on utility poles contains and mitigates these faults before they become a threat, prevents future wildfires, and can save billions of dollars in firefighting efforts and personal damage.
