Christina Carol Martin, a loving wife and writer living in a small town in Woodward, Oklahoma, has completed her new book “Forever Irene”: a charming story of hope and fortitude amidst trying circumstances experiences by two individuals from different eras, each with an intriguing tale of tragedy and how both overcame such desperation.
Author Martin expresses the viewpoint of a reality filled with burden and sorrow, and the manner in which some people cope with the challenges they face throughout their lifetime: “’Candy, mister?’ It was depressing to all that saw. This was the norm for them and they would spend their childhoods working long and endless hours just to survive at very young ages. Girls most often were forced into prostitution at very young ages as well. They stood on the street corners near the bars where the soldiers would go into drink rice wine and beer, and they offered themselves up to anyone who wanted to use and abuse them for what very little money they would receive to bring home to whoever “owned” them. Their sweet young faces tried to smile, though they looked dead in their eyes as they tried to stay afloat in such a cruel environment. It disgusted Ben and he tried to stay as far as he could from those villages and tried to avoid contact with the scum that exploited the helpless.”
Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Christina Carol Martin’s engrossing novel details the similarities of the struggles faced by both protagonists in a world full of injustice and unfairness. Martin also reminds that in order to withstand the tirade of trials, one must have an unceasing will.
