Divi Little Bay Beach Resort on St. Maarten to reopen May, 2018
Chapel Hill, NC (PRWEB) October 05, 2017 -- While cleanup and restoration continues on St. Maarten following the recent, destructive hurricanes, Divi Resorts’ Little Bay Beach Resort has confirmed it will reopen in May 2018, if there are no construction or supply delays.
“Although, optimistically, it was Little Bay’s sincere desire to announce a reopening for high season 2018,” said Marco Galaverna, President and COO of Divi Resorts. “Unfortunately, once our engineers, construction and IT were on the ground in St. Maarten and could complete a full assessment of the property, it was confirmed that most units sustained some sort of damage.”
Although the extent varies from building to building and unit to unit, Galaverna says there is a need for substantial repair and reconstruction in order to provide owners and guests with accommodations equal to, or superior than, those available prior to these storms.
Several vacation options have been offered to owners and guests affected by the temporary closing.
“We want to assure every one of Divi Little Bay’s commitment to seeing this beautiful island and amazing location flourish and come back to life. Not just as it was before, but even better,” Galaverna added.
Divi Resorts has also coordinated much needed assistance for Little Bay’s employees who, like most on the island, were hit hard by the devastation. Since Hurricane Irma struck, the Resort has been providing shelter for many staff members and their families while they begin to fix their homes or find new housing solutions.
In addition, in response to frequent guest and owner outreach regarding how to help, a GoFundMe campaign was created with the goal of raising funds for staff’s personal needs and recovery efforts.
“Our employees are family to us and to many of our guests and owners,” Galaverna said. “We’ve had an outpouring of concern and support for our staff, and we are committed to helping them recover from this tragic natural disaster.”
The GoFundMe campaign continues to accept donations at: gofundme.com/send-love-to-divi-little-bay-staff. All money raised will go directly to employees, as determined by management at the Resort in consultation with staff and their labor union.
The Resort has also been accommodating a troop of Dutch Marines, on the island to assist citizens of St. Maarten, since the end of Hurricane Irma.
“We’re happy to provide accommodations for these heroic men and women as they spend their days cleaning up and rebuilding infrastructure on the island,” said Galaverna. “A few of the Marines have even made friends with Gizmo, our Divi diva parrot.”
