Dr. Kiran Gill Among First In US To Adopt Photonvue® Fluorescence Imaging System As Standard Of Care In Breast Reconstruction

Dr. Kiran Gill is proud to be one of the first physicians in the United States to adopt PhotonVue® Fluorescence Imaging System to benefit women needing plastic and reconstructive surgery for breast cancer. This technology uses fluorescence imaging to help Dr. Gill intraoperatively assess blood flow to the skin and nipple following a mastectomy. By making PhotonVue standard of care, Dr. Gill aims to minimize complications and expand reconstructive options for women in Naples, Florida.

According to the American Cancer Society, 36% of women with Stage I or Stage II and 58% of women with Stage III or Stage IV breast cancer opt for a mastectomy procedure.1 Of those women that have a mastectomy procedure, an estimated 42% will also opt for breast reconstruction, and this number is growing. 1,2

Unfortunately, rates of skin necrosis, or skin death, following mastectomy and reconstruction have been reported in the literature to range between 5% and 30%. 3 PhotonVue® enables Dr. Gill to assess blood flow to the skin and nipple in real time and, therefore, estimate the risk of necrosis. As advanced mastectomy procedures such as Hidden Scar Mastectomy and Nipple Sparing Mastectomy become more popular, Dr. Gill is committed to employing new technologies to ensure that these procedures can be performed safely and effectively, and made available to women in Southwest Florida.

“With more innovative hidden scar oncologic and reconstructive techniques, improved cohesivity in breast implants, Acellular Dermal Matrices, and now PhotonVue® Fluorescence Imaging System we can now reliably provide a range of reconstructive options to patients including a single stage direct to implant reconstruction,” Dr. Kiran Gill states.

Dr. Gill is the only plastic surgeon in Southwest, Florida to utilize the PhotonVue® advanced imaging technique.

A breast cancer diagnosis is difficult enough. Dr. Gill is committed to performing complex, in-demand surgeries with greater confidence, and giving more women access to transformative options. Visit http://www.aestheticsurgerycenter.com to learn more about how Dr. Gill can help you.
