ScyllaDB Acquires Seastar.io Database-as-a-Service Technology
PALO ALTO, Calif. (PRWEB) October 17, 2017 -- KEY POINTS:
- ScyllaDB has acquired Seastar.io technology from Network Redux to support the rising demand for its Cassandra-compatible database on cloud platforms.
- The company also unveiled the Scylla Test Drive, which lets developers spin-up a cloud-hosted Scylla cluster in a single click to see performance advantages for themselves.
- Seastar.io technology and other additions to the Scylla product set will be on display at the upcoming Scylla Summit 2017, October 24-25 in San Francisco.
ScyllaDB, the next generation of NoSQL, today announced it has acquired Seastar.io, a hosted Apache Cassandra service, from Network Redux. As part of the Scylla enterprise product and service portfolio, Seastar.io technology enables developers to use fully managed ScyllaDB over popular public clouds, such as AWS.
Scylla is an open source drop-in Cassandra replacement that is powered by C++. Utilizing the best from Cassandra in high availability, fault tolerance and a rich ecosystem, Scylla offers developers a higher performing and more resource-effective Cassandra alternative to power demanding applications without compromising availability.
Seastar.io emerged in 2014 with the explicit goal of solving automation and security challenges faced when deploying stateful, container-native Cassandra-compatible databases in the cloud. It enables developers to have a cluster up and running in minutes, aided by a dashboard and API that greatly simplify the provisioning process.
“Our acquisition of Seastar.io couldn’t have come at a better time in our company’s evolution,” said Dor Laor, CEO and founder of ScyllaDB. “In the last year, we’ve seen rising demand for hosted Scylla on various cloud platforms. Core Seastar.io technology will make Scylla even more accessible to developers who are building high performance applications on cloud platforms.”
“We are excited to see Seastar.io technology carried forward by the amazing team at ScyllaDB,” said Thomas Brenneke, President of Network Redux. “The combination of the powerful Scylla NoSQL database and Seastar.io capabilities will help give rise to the next generation of applications.”
SCYLLA TEST DRIVE: LIVE PERFORMANCE TEST OF CLOUD-HOSTED SCYLLA
The company also unveiled today its Scylla Test Drive, which gives developers one-click spin-up of a cloud-hosted Scylla cluster using EC2 machines so they can observe live performance graphs, latency, disk capacity and load while being able to privately connect to the servers with SSH for first-hand review. SCYLLA SUMMIT 2017: OCTOBER 24-25, SAN FRANCISCO
At the Scylla Summit 2017, Scylla and Cassandra community members and developers from other Big Data technologies will converge for two days of talks, demos and workshops that will be helpful to anyone running data at scale. Scylla customers will present on how they have achieved breakneck performance and high availability by migrating to Scylla. ScyllaDB executives will share the company’s roadmap, and the Scylla development team will provide insights into ScyllaDB design and performance optimization. An optional one-day training will precede the Summit. Register at http://www.scylladb.com/scylla-summit-2017/
