Lauren Dragon, who currently studies art at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, has completed her new book “Sally the Crab”: a touching story of confidence and compassion as Sally, a hermit crab with a beautiful shell, soon outgrows her home and must find a new one. While finding, she meets other sea creatures that teach her valuable lessons that are worth keeping.
Author Dragon recounts her inspiration for Sally and her adventures as a realistic reflection of the waking world in terms of socializing: “For days and days, Sally looked for a new home, but she just couldn’t find one. Finally, she squeezed her way through an opening of the reef and slept. A reef doesn’t move so she couldn’t make it her permanent home, but it would be a good place to stay for a little while.”
Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Lauren Dragon’s charming account also reflects her personal life. “The Disney movie ‘The Little Mermaid’ made me a fan of sea life,” she expounds. “Unfortunately, growing up it seemed like my friends always had to move away. At one point I had a few pet hermit crabs too. So, I think as a kid, I somehow merged all of these things together to make my story.”
“Sally the Crab” is a story about a hermit crab who has a really pretty shell that a lot of other crabs admire. However, there is only one crab that Sally calls her true friend, and this crab's name is Molly. But one day Molly has to move far away. And worst yet, shortly after Molly moves away Sally outgrows her shell. She then begins a search to look for another one. What kind of encounters will Sally come across in her search and just exactly what kind of home will she end up with? Follow this graceful crab as she ventures on a journey to find a new home and environment.
This is a story about friendship and showing what it means to help others out. The illustrations are vibrant, colorful, and pleasing to the eye. There is also some educational value mixed in. Children will learn about various sea creatures, as well as be entertained. The story itself is about a 15-minute read. Fall in love with the characters and enjoy the bonus coloring and drawing pages!
Readers who wish to experience this fantastic work can purchase “Sally the Crab” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play, Kobo, or Barnes and Noble.
