For Greater Lehigh Valley residents Ed Duborg and Tod Meixell, it means a chance to do something that will help people live a better life.

After two decades in the pharmaceutical industry, the former coworkers and friends reconnected with a desire to take control of their own destiny while making a difference in the lives of seniors. The two joined forces and learned about and became passionate for the mission behind California-based Amada Senior Care. And in September, the duo opened Amada Senior Care Lehigh Valley at 5050 Tilghman St. in South Whitehall Township, the franchise’s first location in the Lehigh Valley.

And after conducting an analysis of the Lehigh Valley, Duborg and Meixell quickly learned that they picked the right spot for their new business. Especially since in April the city of Bethlehem, for the first time, made the Forbes Magazine list of Best Places to Retire in 2017.

“The Lehigh Valley is a good area for seniors,” said Bethlehem Township native Meixell, 47, president of Amada Senior Care Lehigh Valley. “It definitely was the right fit as for where to start a franchise.”

The Lehigh Valley location already has received an A-plus rating from the Home Care Standards Bureau. HCSB grants this rating only to home care agencies that meet and adhere to a stringent code of standards and ethics.

“What’s the point of living longer if you are not living it with quality of life,” said Upper Macungie Township resident Duborg, 45, CEO of Amada Senior Care Lehigh Valley. Duborg is eager to provide Amada’s high standard of senior care, personal care and respite care to seniors and their families, while adding workforce to the local economy.

The one-call solution of Amada Senior Care Lehigh Valley consists of personal in-home care providers, senior housing placement, in-home technology, and financial care coordination. Duborg and Meixell plan to be the face of the company and will be heavily involved in the day to day monitoring and interaction with its clients.

“We are a little different,” Meixell said. “We are always going to be talking to clients, putting a local touch to things.”

Certified Nursing Assistants are on staff to take care of the non-medical in-home care duties, including dressing, cooking, transportation, errands and light housekeeping. These services are offered at an hourly rate, with a four-hour minimum.

Another service in Amada’s one-call solution model helps seniors and their families find assisted living, memory care or independent living placement.

A complimentary service of the company provides seniors with financial care coordination and navigating care options. Expert financial advisors on hand will aid seniors and their families in implementing and managing long term care policies and provide complimentary research and policy analysis.

An integral piece to the financial care and coordination service is that Amada Senior Care Lehigh Valley provides seniors and their families with resources and education on programs offered for war-era veterans, to help secure the veteran’s financial future.

And the last piece to Amada’s offerings is its innovative in-home technology that gives families the comfort and ability to always access and monitor the daily activities of their loved one. CNAs input the information in the system and families can access any time of day via an online web portal. If a client is not ready for assisted living or cannot afford it, Amada Senior Care Lehigh Valley can provide peace of mind to families by installing a motion and pressure sensor system that monitors a senior's daily activities and automatically uploads data to a smartphone App.

Amada Senior Care originated in Orange County, California, in the early 2000s. By 2012 the company became a franchise that would grow to 90 locations across the nation.
