New analysis details the best credit cards to make the most of your holiday purchases

Even if you already have a go-to rewards credit card for your everyday purchases, there could be another which earns you more during the holidays.

NextAdvisor, a top consumer information website, has recently released its list of the best credit cards for holiday shopping. After researching a number of credit cards from top issuers like Discover, Chase, American Express, Wells Fargo, Bank of America and more, editors determined which credit cards offered the longest 0% intro APR on purchases and which offered the best cash back rewards on holiday purchases. They then compiled their findings into a list and detailed them in two blog posts: Best Credit Cards for Avoiding Interest on Holiday Purchases and Earn Extra Cash with the Best Credit Cards for Holiday Shopping.

NextAdvisor’s list of credit cards with the longest 0% intro APRs include Citi Simplicity Card – No Late Fees Ever, BankAmericard Credit Card, Wells Fargo Platinum Visa Card and Chase Slate. Cards for those who want the best of both worlds – a long 0% intro APR plus top-notch cash back earnings – include Chase Freedom – $150 Bonus, Discover it – Cashback Match, Wells Fargo Cash Wise Visa Card and Blue Cash Preferred Card from American Express.

“During the holidays, many consumers find themselves spending a little bit outside their budget, which can mean hefty interest fees,” said Jocelyn Baird, Associate Editor at NextAdvisor. “A credit card with a long 0% intro APR period on purchases can help, as it gives you more time to pay off your purchases without accruing any added interest on top. Whether you’re hosting a family feast, purchasing gifts for everyone on your list or traveling near and far, you can cover all your expenses with peace of mind with a 0% intro APR credit card.”

When it came to cash back credit cards, NextAdvisor divided its list into five different categories to help readers find the best cash back credit card to account for their holiday spending habits. These categories were: best for gift purchases, best for groceries, best for road trips and travel, best for all purchases and best for giving back.

“You might not realize it, but many credit cards tailor their rewards toward holiday purchases,” said Julie Myhre-Nunes, Director of Content at NextAdvisor. “Even if you already have a go-to rewards credit card for your everyday purchases, there could be another which earns you more during the holidays.”

NextAdvisor’s list of the best cash back credit cards includes Discover it – Cashback Match and Chase Freedom - $150 Bonus for gift purchases; the Blue Cash Preferred Card and Blue Cash Everyday Card from American Express for groceries; the Wells Fargo Propel American Express Card and Bank of America Cash Rewards Credit Card for travel; Barclaycard CashForward World Mastercard, Wells Fargo Cash Wise Visa Card and Citi Double Cash Card for all purchases; and the Susan G. Komen Credit Card for giving back.
