John Galante, Former JPMorgan Chase CIO, to Lead Year Up New York as Executive Director
NEW YORK (PRWEB) November 02, 2017 -- The nonprofit workforce development program Year Up announced today that John Galante will serve as the new Executive Director of the program’s New York site, effective immediately. Previously, Galante served as the Chief Information Officer for the Consumer and Business Banking Divisions of JPMorgan Chase. During his thirteen years at JPMorgan, Galante was also the executive sponsor of Year Up’s partnership with the company, which has hosted more than 800 Year Up interns and hired more than 200 graduates.
“We’re thrilled to have John’s expert guidance as we continue to scale Year Up New York to reach more young adults in need of an opportunity,” said Garrett Moran, President at Year Up. “His results-driven management experience, knowledge of the New York labor market, and deep commitment to Year Up’s mission will enable us to continue closing the Opportunity Divide in the city while providing top companies with a pipeline of skilled, motivated talent.”
Galante joins several other leaders at Year Up with successful careers in the financial industry. John Bradley, Year Up’s Chief Operating Officer, was previously the Global Head of Human Resources at UBS. Robert Dame, Executive Director of Year Up’s Greater Boston site, was previously Senior Vice President in the Investor Services Group at State Street Bank.
“Year Up’s effective program has transformed the lives of thousands of young adults in the city,” said Galante. “The young people I’ve met through Year Up New York have proven themselves to be tremendous assets to organizations like JPMorgan Chase as both interns and graduates. I look forward to building on Year Up’s success and helping more employers experience the value of this talent as we continue expanding the program.”
Since 2006, Year Up New York has helped more than 2,450 young adults achieve their professional and educational goals through hands-on technical and professional skills training, college credits and internships. These young adults provide more than 40 of New York’s leading businesses – including JPMorgan Chase, Google, Facebook, and Bank of America — with a pipeline of skilled, motivated talent for entry- and mid-level roles in Sales, IT, Financial Operations, Cyber Security and Business Operations.
Year Up New York now serves 320 students each year, with 88 percent of graduates employed or attending postsecondary education within four months of completing the program. Last week, a study released by Harvard Business School, Accenture and Grads of Life —“Dismissed by Degrees: How degree inflation is undermining U.S. competitiveness and hurting America’s middle class” — profiled Year Up in two case studies of employers who partnered with the program to increase retention, engagement and diversity. Year Up is free for students, who also earn weekly stipends and college credits throughout the year. Learn more about Year Up New York by visiting us on Facebook and Twitter.
