Goldstein and Bashner and The Long Island Coalition Against Bullying Honor 2017 Anti-bullying Scholarship Winner at Fall Gala
MUTTONTOWN, N.Y. (PRWEB) November 04, 2017 -- The law firm of Goldstein and Bashner and The Long Island Coalition Against Bullying (LICAB) announced the winner of the Second Annual “Anti-bullying” essay scholarship on October 21, 2017 at a celebration held at The Woodside Club in Muttontown, NY, as part of The Long Island Coalition Against Bullying's Second Fall Gala. The anti- bullying scholarship was open to all high school students in Long Island. Participants were asked to submit an original action plan in the form of an essay and a one minute video that would provide an effective and scalable action plan (a plan outlining actions needed to reach a goal) to combat bullying in our Long Island communities.
“On a daily basis, we talk to many parents on Long Island about things they can do to help their child if they are being bullied. Bullying and cyber-bullying statistically affect 70% of teens and do serious harm to young people,” said Neal Goldstein, Partner of Goldstein and Bashner. “Our anti-bullying scholarship encourages young people to do better, to treat each other with respect, to not focus on other's differences. One of the things that I love about Terrance's program is that in Friday Friends, no one is different and everyone is treated equal and with respect. This naturally creates a bully-free environment.”
Our scholarship winner is Terrance Cameron of Oyster Bay. He received a $2,000 scholarship.
Terrance Cameron, the 2017 winner of the Anti-bullying Honor Scholarship, is a senior at Oyster Bay High School and founder of Friday Friends, a service that once a month pairs special needs kids with volunteers to do something fun and provide the student’s parents with a night off. Since its founding, Friday Friends has now grown to two locations with over 140 participants. Terrance manages all the email correspondence, and with the help of another teen, he manages all the one-to-one pairings of all the volunteers with the special needs children. The program has both adult and teen volunteers including a nurse and a special-education teacher.
In addition to his role with Friday Friends, Terrance is also the varsity captain of the cross country, winter track, and lacrosse teams and Vice President of the student council. We commend Terrance for all the work he’s done already to combat bullying in the community and we are excited to see what the future holds for Friday Friends.
