ArcScan, Inc., developer of state-of-the-art ophthalmic imaging technology, announced today that the company has closed sales for its Insight® 100 device to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, and Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC.
The Insight® 100, ArcScan’s FDA 510(k)-cleared precision point-and-shoot ultrasound device for imaging and biometry of the eye, is indicated for refractive surgical planning and evaluation of anterior segment pathology. The Insight® 100 images and measures anterior chamber depth, angle-to-angle width, individual corneal layers, sulcus-to-sulcus width, anterior and posterior capsular surfaces, and more—with micron level precision and repeatability, all in a patient-friendly device.
“The Insight® 100 offers so much more than our current ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) platform does,” said Won Kim, MD, ophthalmologist at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. “Of course, the Insight® 100 is able to image past the iris and the ciliary body to the ciliary sulcus—but the accuracy, reproducibility, and speed of ArcScan’s device far exceeds what is possible with traditional manual UBM. We can finally obtain accurate sulcus-to-sulcus measurements to help with implantable contact lens (ICL) planning, and reproducible scans and measurements to accurately follow masses or other anterior segment structures over time.”
“The Insight® 100 allows technicians—not just physicians—to obtain valuable scans with ease, just like obtaining an OCT scan or a biometry measurement,” Dr. Kim said. “As a result, UBM scans will be ordered far more frequently, enhancing patient care without obstructing patient flow in a busy clinic environment.”
Dr. Kim is also excited about the benefits of the Insight® 100 for research. “Research is a core part of our mission. Being able to obtain easy, accurate, high-quality, reproducible UBM images will open up many avenues of research, such as imaging and measuring the supraciliary lake after Cypass implantation, characterizing preoperative sulcus measurements, proper ICL sizing, and many others,” said Dr. Kim.
