Amica’s 2017 Thanksgiving card features work by East Providence, Rhode Island, artist
LINCOLN, R.I. (PRWEB) November 06, 2017 -- An oil painting by Shawn Kenney, of East Providence, Rhode Island, graces the cover of Amica Insurance’s annual Thanksgiving card, which has been mailed to nearly 840,000 customers across the country.
Kenney’s painting, titled “Getting Ready,” evokes memories of preparing for past Thanksgivings, and the special people gathered around the table. It was unveiled in a short ceremony on Friday (Nov. 3) at Amica’s corporate headquarters, and it will hang in the company’s art gallery with the other paintings featured on the holiday card since 1971.
“The Thanksgiving piece had to conjure up what Thanksgiving felt like,” Kenney said of his painting. “More than most meals, it’s emblematic of being appreciative of what you have and who you have in your life. It had to evoke that sense of warmth.”
A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts, Kenney works as an art director, designer and illustrator. When he’s not at work or in his studio in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, he’s teaching at the Providence Art Club, experimenting in the kitchen or working in his garden.

Friday also marked the beginning of Amica’s annual “Giving Thanks Giving Back” food drive. Each of the four buildings at Amica’s corporate headquarters has been assigned a canned food item, and the buildings will compete to see who can donate the most items through Friday, Nov. 17. The items will then be given to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
“We wanted to make sure that Thanksgiving is special for everyone in our communities,” said Robert A. DiMuccio, chairman, president and CEO of Amica. “That’s why I’m so proud that we combined the unveiling of our Thanksgiving card painting with our ‘Giving Thanks Giving Back’ food drive.”
To kick-start the food drive, Amica employees, with the help of nonprofit Canstruction® Rhode Island, built a piece of pumpkin pie using more than 2,000 canned food items. The pie was on display at Friday’s unveiling, and those items will also go to the Food Bank.
