Gilbert is a leader in our community and has provided so many contributions to the MVS and I/O world. I can’t think of anyone more deserving.

The Computer Measurement Group (CMG) has announced IntelliMagic Founder Dr. Gilbert Houtekamer as the 2017 winner of the prestigious A.A. Michelson Award. This award recognizes an exceptional individual who has made significant contributions to the field of computer performance analysis. The winner is elected by past A.A. Michelson Award winners.

"It is a tremendous honor to be added to this exclusive group of people who created our industry," said Dr. Houtekamer, who started his career in computer performance with research for his Ph.D. at the Delft University of Technology in the 1980s. Former A.A. Michelson Award winner Dr. H. Pat Artis remembers: “I first met Gilbert at a conference held in Pavia, Italy, during the fall of 1985. Gilbert asked my advice about continuing to complete his Doctorate at the Delft University of Technology. I have always been pleased that he took my advice and it is a great moment when you can watch your student become a master. The award is a well-deserved recognition for his lifetime of work!”

Cheryl Watson, publisher of the Tuning Letter and a former A.A. Michelson award winner, congratulated Dr. Houtekamer by saying: “Gilbert is a leader in our community and has provided so many contributions to the MVS and I/O world. I can’t think of anyone more deserving, and I’m thrilled that he is receiving it.”

Dr. Houtekamer continued to work on performance analytics throughout his career and founded IntelliMagic with Els Das 15 years ago to focus exclusively on serving customers with intelligent performance analysis software. The embedded human intelligence reveals hidden risks, actual issues, and true root causes, rather than just reporting symptoms or flagging statistical anomalies. Dr. Houtekamer comments: "It wouldn’t have been possible to get this award without our valued customers and the great team at IntelliMagic. By recruiting talented individuals and collaborating with customers, new ideas emerge that drive product innovation, which in turn helps our customers obtain better application service reliability."

Dr. Gilbert Houtekamer and Todd Havekost, who won this year's CMG Best Paper Award, are speaking at the CMG imPACt 2017 conference in New Orleans that is taking place this week.
