Avid Collector Announces His Search For Original Rock N Roll 1950s And 1960s Boxing Style Concert Posters
SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) November 08, 2017 -- Avid collector, Andrew Hawley, announces his search for original rock n roll 1950s and 1960s boxing style concert posters. Hatch Show Print in Nashville, Murray Poster Printing Company in New York and Globe Posters in Baltimore were top boxing style poster printers. These printers illustrated America’s top rock n roll acts in the 1950s and 1960s. According to Hawley, “Boxing style concert posters got their name because they were used to advertise boxing matches in the 1920s. Louis Armstrong, a jazz trumpeter who popularized jazz in the Roaring Twenties, used boxing style concert posters to advertise his upcoming shows. The posters announced each event with venue name, address, show dates and ticket cost. Several hundred were printed and hung on telephone poles and in local department and music stores to advertise each event.”
Hawley adds, “Many of the rock and roll acts in the 1950s and 1960s used the same arenas and coliseums where boxing matches were held. It was natural for these venues to call Hatch, Murray, Globe, or a local print shop to have concert posters produced for an upcoming event. Many of the posters produced for Elvis Presley, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Bill Haley and the Comets, Ray Charles and Buddy Holly and the Crickets were colorful and attractive. The posters captured images of each artists and create a timeline of each act and their success in America. It was natural for the top acts in the 1960s to do the same. The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, or Janis Joplin also used boxing style concert poster to advertise their shows. Concert posters of leading artists in the 50s and 60s bring back memories or make someone wish they had been at the concert. This is why these posters are collected.”For examples of boxing style concert posters, go to [http://www.vintageconcertposterbuyer.com/boxing_style/index.html.
