Year Up Wilmington Announces Partnership with Zip Code Wilmington
WILMINGTON, Del. (PRWEB) November 07, 2017 -- Year Up, a yearlong workforce development program for underserved young adults, is proud to announce its Wilmington site's partnership with Zip Code Wilmington, Delaware's first coding boot camp. Through this partnership, Year Up students will receive approximately 360 hours of technical training in the Java programming language to prepare for entry-level internships in software engineering at JPMorgan Chase, which plans to host interns in this field starting January 2018.
Founded in 2015, nonprofit Zip Code Wilmington offers an immersive, 12-week software development boot camp. After completing the internship, Year Up graduates will be eligible to apply for Zip Code’s boot camp where they can prepare for full-time roles at one of Year Up’s or Zip Code’s employer partners.
"Our partnership with Zip Code Wilmington is particularly exciting because it will allow us to expand our training program and provide more opportunity for young adults in our area to gain these critical job skills,” said Joseph Coyle, Year Up Wilmington Executive Director. “As a dedicated partner of Year Up, JPMorgan Chase expressed a hiring need, and we are delighted that this new program will enable us to better serve both JPMorgan Chase and the young adults in our program.”
“This partnership is extremely gratifying for Zip Code Wilmington because it broadens our opportunity to equip young adults in our community with technical skills to enable them to find meaningful work in an in-demand industry,” said Melanie Augustin, Head of School at Zip Code Wilmington.
Year Up Wilmington launched in 2017 in partnership with Peirce College. Year Up Wilmington offers an intensive, one-year program for college students, combining professional coaching, hands-on skill development, and internships at some of America’s top companies. As students work toward completing a degree at Peirce College, Year Up Wilmington provides them with professional development and work experience, preparing graduates to launch a meaningful career. Year Up Wilmington has served more than 60 young adults to date.
