“The Beat Goes On”: an enjoyable book about John McDermott the fictional, yet bigger than life character, whose efforts contribute to the anticrime, antiterrorist work of the National Security Agency, of which he is the assistant director. “The Beat Goes On” is the creation of published author, Ron Moore, an 82-year-old curmudgeon who has survived the Great Depression, lived during World War II, served in the USAF during the Korean war, and witnessed several wars since.
Moore shares “John cautioned both Jimmy and Bob not to give any credit for any success that was realized in the wee hours of the morning to anyone but God. ‘Please do not, under any circumstances, give any credit for the plan to anyone, particularly me!’ John said quite firmly. ‘Let me tell you what did happen last night. Just before I left you to get in the elevator, I noticed my Bible was opened to a passage quite ‘fitting’ for the occasion we were facing. That passage in Psalm 78:39, but it is preceded by ‘they were not faithful to His covenant, yet He was merciful. He forgave their iniquities and did not destroy them, time after time He restrained and did not stir up His full wrath. He remembered that they are but flesh, a passing breeze that does not return.’ On my elevator ride down to Thornboro’s office, a great 2:00 a.m. picture came into my mind of the hotel and the rooftop, the balcony and the courtyards. So, putting two and two together, and with some prayer under my breath while staging the plan, God showed me all I needed! Now when you speak to our people, go tell it on the mountain and be firm about whose plan it was, is, and always will be—not anyone’s but God’s.”
Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Ron Moore’s new book is an exciting story of how John McDermott together with other officials get the support of criminalistics professionals to check on the affairs of the State, carry out missions, and do administrative work like hiring applicants for agencies.
This is also about an investigator’s life full of humility as he responds to God’s calling and acknowledges the Lord’s work and not just his own in the course of fulfilling his role.
