KD Conservatory Announces Premiere of Musical Avenue Q
DALLAS (PRWEB) November 09, 2017 -- Dallas acting school KD Conservatory (http://www.kdstudio.com) is bringing Broadway musical Avenue Q to the stage this November. Winner of the Tony “Triple Crown” for Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book, Avenue Q combines humor, catchy music, and puppets - all ingredients for a great show.
KD Musical Theatre Director Michael Serrecchia will be directing the piece and is excited to see it on stage at KD’s Black Box Theatre.
“Avenue Q is a hilarious and touching show about growing up and finding your place in the world,” Serrecchia said. “When you can make people laugh and feel strong emotions too, that’s when art has done its work.”
The musical tells the story of a recent college grad named Princeton, who moves into a shabby New York apartment out on Avenue Q. Although the residents seem nice, he later finds out that it’s not your ordinary neighborhood. The story then focuses on Princeton and his new friends as they struggle to find jobs, relationships, and purpose in life.
“I think this is a story we can all relate to some extent,” said KD Owner Kathy Tyner, “especially if you have followed your dreams to a big city and found yourself floundering. You question your goals, your future, and ultimately, your destiny.”
Serrecchia’s professional career began in modern and classical dance with Jose Limon Youth Company and The Harkness Ballet in New York City. There, he met and studied with many notable people in the theatre and entertainment industry. Most of his training, however, came from practical experience performing on Broadway for 18 years, in many original Broadway musicals. In fact, Serrecchia was a part of American Musical Theatre History as an original cast member of A Chorus Line.
Serrecchia’s approach to directing and choreography is basic Meisner technique: “To live truthfully under given imaginary circumstances.” In that way, he strives to remain true to any author or composer’s work and never “forces” performance, but rather nurtures it organically.
“I know that Michael will work well with the cast and bring out the musical’s best features,” Tyner said. “To tell a story in this medium is difficult, but it’s definitely well worth it.”
The Broadway hit will take place November 9th-11th at 7:30pm and November 16th-18th at 7:30pm at the school’s Black Box Theatre. The theatre is located at 2600 North Stemmons Freeway, Dallas, TX 75207, and tickets can be purchased at brownpapertickets.com.
