Ecolectro Receives NYSERDA Award To Develop Next Generation Alkaline Exchange Polymers
ITHACA, N.Y. (PRWEB) November 15, 2017 -- Founded in June 2015, Ecolectro, Inc. has a mission is to make renewable energy technologies competitive with fossil fuel based alternatives. To this end, Ecolectro, a chemical company, is developing and manufacturing alkaline exchange polymers which are components of various clean energy technologies. These polymers make the production of clean energy more efficient and less expensive than currently-used polymers.
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has awarded Ecolectro $455,092 to develop next generation Alkaline Exchange Polymers based on Imidazolium compounds. These new materials are very long lasting and inexpensive. “Our collaborators, from academic groups focused on improving these technologies to industry partners manufacturing and selling devices, have expressed a sincere need for our materials. Ecolectro was founded to commercialize technology originally developed at Prof. Geoffrey W. Coates research laboratory at Cornell University. The technology has the potential to reduce cost of the raw materials used to build hydrogen electrolyzer and fuel cell systems by 40%. “With NYSERDA’s support, Ecolectro will be able to conduct research and development of these new materials that our customers have asked us for. We already are supplying hundreds of R&D materials to several cutting-edge companies in five industries and this award will accelerate the rate of innovation and adoption of our products.” - says Dr. Gabriel G. Ecolectro plans to develop and manufacture the polymers under this award in New York State’s Southern Tier. The award will put them at the leading edge of materials design for the hydrogen electrolyzer and fuel cell fields.
